St. Louis Rams defensive coordinator Lovie Smith will talk with the New York Giants about their vacant head coaching job on Tuesday.
Smith is the second candidate to be interviewed by Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi and chief operating officer John Mara.
Former Jacksonville coach Tom Coughlin was interviewed last week. The Giants plan to talk with New England assistant coaches Romeo Crennel and Charlie Weis on Thursday. Crennel is the Patriots defensive coordinator. Weis runs the offense.

Coughlin, Weis and Crennel all were assistant coaches with the Giants in the
late 1980s and early 1990s.
Smith and Crennel are black. The NFL requires all teams seeking coaches to conduct face-to-face interviews with minority candidates.
The Giants announced that
Jim Fassel would be fired about 10 days ago. Fassel coached his final game on
Sunday as New York (4-12) lost its eighth straight game, 37-24 to Carolina.
